It shall be unlawful for a person to engage in the practice of physical therapy except as a licensed PT, upon the referral and direction of a licensed doctor of medicine, osteopathy, chiropractic, podiatry, dental surgery, licensed nurse practitioner or a licensed physician assistant. B. A PT with a CAPTE approved DPT or a PT who has obtained a certificate of authorization may evaluate and treat a patient for no more than 60 [(had been 30) consecutive days] after evaluation without a referral under the following conditions: a. b. i. ii. iii. A PT who has not completed a DPT program approved by CAPTE or who has not obtained a certificate of authorization, may conduct a one-time evaluation that does not include treatment without referral. If appropriate, the PT will refer the patient to the appropriate practitioner for medical care. D. It shall be unlawful for a PT to fail to immediately refer any patient to a licensed doctor of medicine, osteopathy, chiropractic, podiatry, dental surgery, licensed nurse practitioner or a licensed physician assistant, whose medical condition is determined at the time of evaluation or treatment, to be beyond the scope of practice of a physical therapist. F. Any person licensed as a PTA shall perform his duties only under the direction and control of a licensed PT. G. A PT can provide physical therapy services without a referral to: c. d. e. f. g. h.
