1. Identify the three states of water and describe the particles in each state. Allmatter including water is made up of tiny particles. Water existsin three physical states. Lce is in the solid state. Particles in solid state-are ¢losely packed and arranged in a regular pattern Water is in the liquid state. Particles in liquid state are closely packed but not arranged regularly. Water vapour is in the gas state. Particles in gas state are far apart. 2. What are the changes in state 6f water? Melting-change in state from a solid to a liquid, the melting point of ice is 0°C. Freezing-change in state from a liquid to a solid, the freezing point of water is 0°C Boiling- change in state from a liquid to a gas, the boiling point of water is 100°C Evaporation- change in state from a liquid to a gas. it takes place at temperatures below the boiling point. Condensation- change in state from a gas to liquid.it takes place at temperatures at * or below the boiling point. 3. Give and describe the processes of the water cycle. Evaporation occurs when sunlight warms the surface of the water. The water particles absorb energy and escape from the water surface to become water vapour. Condensation takes place when the water vapour cools down and condenses to form small water droplets. The water droplets join together to form clouds. Transportation occurs when clouds are carried to other places by wind. Precipitation happens when water droplets are heavy enough and fall as rain. 4. What can we do to help reduce water pollution? Everyone has the responsibility to reduce water pollution. We can do the following: Use less detergent when washing dishes. Do not throw rubbish into the sea or rivers. Do not pour waste water into the rainwater drains. Do not wash clothes or dishes in rivers or streams.
