**Policy Manual** ------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- ------------- Subject: KCFD UNIFORMS Effective Date: 7/21/2021 UNIFORM Applies to: ALL UNIFORMED KCFD PERSONNEL Supersedes: 10/1/10 VERSION Page 1 of 4 Responsible Committee: Technical Services ------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- ------------- **PURPOSE:** To establish policy and regulations for the proper wearing of the KCFD uniforms and to ensure maximum uniformity of dress throughout KCFD. **SCOPE:** These guidelines shall apply to all members of the KCFD. **GUIDELINES:** I. General A. The types of attire described herein shall constitute the official uniform for all KCFD members. B. Any unauthorized deviations, variation or alterations of the uniforms of the Department is strictly prohibited. The Fire Chief must specifically approve any deviation necessitated by a particular duty assignment. C. All members shall be dressed in the proper attire for the type of activity and time of day. It is the intent of this guideline that all members of a company shall be attired alike when in public. D. Worn, damaged or faded clothing shall be replaced immediately in accordance with General Administrative Guideline 6-10, "Replacement/Distribution of Clothing." II. DRESS UNIFORM A. All uniformed members holding the rank of Chief Officer shall wear the dress uniform when attending formal events including but not limited to: 1. Funerals 2. Graduations 3. Ceremonies 4. When directed by the Fire Chief B. All other uniformed members not included above may purchase a dress uniform. The uniform shall be worn only for official or authorized KCFD events including but not limited to: 1. Funerals 2. Graduations 3. Ceremonies 4. When directed by the Fire Chief D. Class A uniforms shall be worn by all Chief Officers during business hours from Monday through Friday and by all members at any time requiring formality or when assigned to special activities such as: 1. Promotions 2. Funerals 3. Graduations 4. Award ceremonies 5. Fire Guard duties 6. Inspections 7. Building Information and Response Narratives 8. Public speaking engagements except block parties, station tours or apparatus demos 9. When directed by the Fire Chief B. CLASS B UNIFORM A. Class B uniforms for all members are to be worn as directed by this policy or at the discretion of the supervising officer. CLASS C UNIFORM The Class C uniforms may be worn when another uniform class is not required. The Class C uniform shall consist of: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 1. VI. UNIFORM JACKET 1. The uniform jacket may be worn with the Class A or Class B uniform. 2. Under no circumstances shall the jacket be worn with civilian clothes. 3. The jacket may be worn off duty when attending or participating in a fire department sanctioned event or activity specified within this GAG (i.e. customer service request, fire department funeral). 4. Under no circumstances shall any patches sewn on the jackets be removed or modified. SHORTS and CASUAL FOOTWEAR A. Gym-type shorts and casual footwear, such as tennis shoes, sandals, flip-flops, etc., may only be worn while in the station and on station grounds. KCFD or manufacturer logos permitted. Short length must extend between mid-thigh and knee and have a hemmed bottom edge. B. Uniform shorts must be solid navy blue in color and remain as issued. Short length must extend between mid-thigh and knee and have a hemmed bottom edge. C. Casual footwear is allowed during down time. Solid color socks are to be worn with casual footwear. Casual footwear that is either open-toed or open-heeled may not be worn when performing physical work functions, fitness activity, or other potentially hazardous tasks.
