# Learner-Centered Lesson Plan An approach that allows students to take ownership of their learning instead of passively listening to the teacher. ## Lesson Planning (Before Class) Steps to follow before, during, and after a class session: 1. **Identify Learning Objectives:** Define the learning goals for the lesson before preparing it. A learning goal specifies what the learner will know or be able to do. 2. **Plan Specific Learning Activities:** Build the skills and knowledge necessary for successful learning. Consider the types of activities students need to participate in during the lesson. 3. **Plan to Assess Student Understanding:** Use assessments like reports, problem sets, or performance tasks to give students opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. This also allows teachers to gather input that can drive further learning. 4. **Plan to Sequence the Lesson Meaningfully:** * Robert Gagné's nine-step method for instruction. * Use Gagné's method in accordance with Bloom's Updated Taxonomy of Educational Goals. This helps in creating engaging and meaningful instruction. 5. **Create a Realistic Timeline:** Focus on two or three main concepts, ideas, or abilities instead of a long list of ten learning goals. 6. **Plan for Lesson Closure:** This provides an opportunity to consolidate student learning, check for understanding, and adjust teaching methods as needed. ## During the Class: Presenting Your Lesson Plan * Inform learners of key objectives and upcoming activities to maintain engagement. ## After the Class: Presenting Your Lesson Plan * Reflect on what went well and why, identify areas for improvement. ## Types of Lesson Plans 1. **Daily Lesson Plan:** A regular approach for in-class or in-home teaching, prepared for a single day. 2. **Unit Plan:** details omitted ## Brief Lesson Plan A short outline (under 12 minutes) to present. **Example of a Brief Lesson Plan** **1. Objectives:** * Identify the different landforms of Luzon. * Explain the structure of various landforms. * Share insights about the topic. ## Other important aspects of a lesson plan * **DLP:** Includes routines, lesson proper, activities, questions/answers. * **Semi-DLP:** Only includes the steps for the lesson proper * **Evaluation:** Formative tests to assess learning (e.g., 10-item quizzes). * **Assignment:** Activities or questions to prepare students for the next day.
