There are a variety of types of destinations which include: Beach & Coastal Destinations; Rural or Countryside Destinations; Urban, town or city destinations; island destinations; & resorts. **Beach & Coastal Destinations...
**[1.6 TYPES OF DESTINATIONS]** Destinations are places that tourists visit. There are a variety of types of destinations which include: Beach & Coastal Destinations; Rural or Countryside Destinations; Urban, town or city destinations; island destinations; & resorts. **Beach & Coastal Destinations** Can be defined as a destination that has a beach and is on the coastline. These are places that are close to the sea which tourists visit. An example of a beach destination is Grand Baie in Mauritius or Walvis Bay in Namibia. Coastal destinations are not always beach destinations as some are port towns or cities. Port Louis is a port town and city destination in Mauritius. **Rural or Countryside Destinations** An example in Botswana is Goomoremi in Botswana. This destination can include lakes and mountains. Another example is Breckenridge in Colorado, USA which is a mountain destination with a ski resort as well. **Resorts** These are places that tourists visit for fun, for holidays, to relax and to enjoy tourism activities. There are types of resorts such as **purpose-built resorts** which are a resort that are planned and built especially for tourism. Theme parks are an example of these purpose-built resorts. Some resorts are destinations in themselves and also of themselves e.g., Beach destinations that are towns are sometimes called seaside resorts. Some destinations have Integrated resort complexes that include Hotel accommodation and facilities such as restaurants and entertainment venues at a single site. Eco-resorts are environmentally friendly resorts. **Urban Destinations** Urban, town or city destinations are towns and cities that tourists visit. Port Louis in Mauritius is a port town, the biggest city in Mauritius and an urban destination. **Island Destinations** Island destinations are islands tourists visit. Mauritius is an example of an island destination. Some destinations can be more than one type of destination. Grand Baie is a beach and coastal destination on the island of Mauritius.
