Number of Units: 1 unit (1 hour per week) Cebu Institute of Techonology - University COURSE OUTLINE 1. CpE Curriculum 2. Introduction to the Engineering Profession 3. Preparing for an Engineering Career 4. Introduction to Engineering Design 5. Engineering Communication 6. Engineering Ethics Cebu Institute of Techonology - University PROGRAM OVERVIEW PROGRAM OVERVIEW PROGRAM OVERVIEW COMPUTER ENGINEERING Computer Engineering solidified its emergence from electrical engineering. Computer engineering emerged from electrical engineering during the late 1970s and the 1980s, but it was not until the 1990s that the computer chips became basic components of most kinds of electrical devices and many kinds of mechanical devices. 01 02 03 ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING COMPUTER SCIENCE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Focuses on the study and Focuses on theory, algorithms, Focuses on application, application of electricity, and programming that underlie the management, and maintenance of electronics, and operation of computer systems. computer systems and networks in electromagnetism. organizational contexts. DISTINGUISHING COMPUTER ENGINEERING AS A SEPARATE DISCIPLINE Computer Engineering is uniquely positioned at the intersection of hardware and software, DISTINGUISHING combining principles from Electrical COMPUTER Engineering and Computer Science. The discipline is characterized by its focus on ENGINEERING designing and optimizing the interface between hardware and software, making it integral to the development of modern computing systems, embedded systems, and IoT devices. SUMMARY OF DISTINGUISING CHARACTERISTICS Hardware vs. Software: CE bridges the gap between the hardware-centric EE and the DISTINGUISHING software-centric CS. COMPUTER Practical Application: IT focuses more on applying technology in practical scenarios, while ENGINEERING CE is involved in the creation and design of technology. Specialization: ECE specializes in communication technologies, whereas CE focuses on the broader spectrum of computing systems. COMPUTER ENGINEERING Computer Engineering seeks to match efficient digital devices with appropriate software to meet the scientific, technological and administrative needs of business and industry in a global economy. The program provides students with a background that prepares them for careers in embedded systems design, computer system operations, and systems support. COMPUTER ENGINEERING The Computer Engineering curriculum provides students with a foundation in basic science, mathematics and the humanities. Written and oral communication skills are emphasized and developed throughout the program, as is team project work (laboratory experiments, reports, and thesis) and an appreciation of the ethical and professional responsibilities of an engineer.
