Motto: “Service towards a healthy society”(“Berkhidmat untuk kesihatan rakyat”) Represent the interests of its members and also the general public by having representatives at the Pharmacy Board and the Poisons Board of the Ministry of Health  Membership 5 categories: Ordinary membership – all registered pharmacists, opt for life membership Associate membership – graduates of pharmacy not preparing for registration as pharmacists & pharmacists teaching pharmacy as a full-time lecturer in a recognized institutions of higher learning in Malaysia (not for registered pharmacists) Provisionally Registered Pharmacist (PRP) membership – all graduates preparing for registration as pharmacists UG Students members – all UG pharmacy students in Malaysia – under MyPSA (Malaysian Pharmacist Student Association) PG Pharmacist membership  History of MPS Early 1900's, two Pharmaceutical Associations existed to look after the interests of the pharmacists: Penang Pharmaceutical Association - based in Penang since most of the pharmacists at that time were in Penang. Straits Pharmaceutical Association - based in the Singapore: members include pharmacists in the Colony of Singapore, and the southern part of the then Federation of Malaya, especially Johor.  History of MPS (2) 31st May 1949 - the name of the Straits Pharmaceutical Association was changed to the Malayan Pharmaceutical Association with 2 Divisions. The Southern Division (previously the Straits Pharmaceutical Association) based in Singapore had pharmacist members mainly from the Colony of Singapore. The Northern Division (incorporating the Penang Pharmaceutical Association) has pharmacist members from the Federation.  History of MPS (3) The number of pharmacists at that time was very small. In 1955 it was around 30. Involved in the drafting of various Ordinances relating to pharmacists and pharmacy practice. Such Ordinances include: Poison Ordinance, Pharmacists Registration Ordinance, Advertising & Sale of Medicine Ordinance, Dangerous Drug Ordinance. The annual subscription fees at that time - Malayan Dollar 12 a year. Subsequently after the separation of Malaysia and Singapore, the present Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society was formed and registered with the Registrar of Societies on 6th Nov 1967.  MPS The only organisation that represents all pharmacists All sectors Private and public pharmacists. Public and private pharmacists Government hospitals involve in the pharmacy (patient counseling, drug supply management, ward supply management) Private hospitals with similar functions as government hospital pharmacist Community pharmacists Pharmaceutical trading companies Factories manufacturing pharmaceuticals Factories manufacturing health products, cosmetics Research/analytical laboratories Universities as lecturers, head of departments NPRA Regulatory departments as regulatory enforcement officers Veterinary companies  Among the aims of the MPS To promote and maintain the honor and interest of the profession of pharmacy To encourage and further the development of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Education and to foster intra-professional relationship among members. To improve the Science of Pharmacy for the general welfare of the public by fostering the publication of scientific and professional information relating to the practice of pharmacy and aid in the development and stimulation of discovery, invention and research.  Among the aims of the MPS (2) To uphold and enhance the standard and ethics of the profession. To affiliate and co-operate with any organization as may be deemed desirable in furthering the aims of the Society. To represent the views of the members in matters affecting the common interest of the profession. To assist in improving the health services in the country. Has a council and a principal Academic matters – CPD, professional courses Mission: To provide continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities in support of lifelong learning among pharmacists. To provide a platform for effective sharing of knowledge, skills and experience among pharmacy educators, researchers and practitioners as well as policy makers. To advocate and facilitate provision, credentialing and accreditation of specialists and advanced level practitioners in pharmacy practice. To promote innovations in pharmacy practice, research and education.  MAP – Aims and Objectives To advance the Art and Science of Pharmacy. To promote study and research into pharmacy and scientific problems. To promote and maintain the highest standards of professional practice. To maintain a high code of ethical conduct amongst its members. To represent, express and give effect to the views and opinions of its members. To protect the interest and dignity of the Malaysian Academy of Pharmacy. MAP – Aims and Objectives (2) To offer scholarships, study awards and other grants. Authority As compared to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) -Registration -Recognition of pharmacy degrees -Disciplinary action against pharmacists Malaysian Community Pharmacists Association (Persatuan Farmasi Komuniti Malaysia) MCPA - legally established on 7th October 2005 Now MCPG (Malaysian Community Pharmacy Guild) - 8th April 2013 New association representing community pharmacists and community pharmacies. MCPG is a national professional organization for the owners and pharmacists of Community Pharmacies. Focus on the pharmacy professionalism and practitioners’ interests of all the Community Pharmacists one-third of total 10,480 registered and qualified pharmacists in Malaysia as on May 2013.  Main objectives of MCPG To promote and protect the honour and interests of the pharmacy profession in industrial matters. To enhance and uphold the professional standard and ethics of community pharmacy practice. To protect and improve the interests, including the exclusive dispensing of medicines, of the community pharmacists. To encourage and spearhead the advancement of pharmaceutical education and pharmaceutical sciences through the publication of relevant professional information and knowledge, particularly that which are related to the community pharmacy practice. To represent the views of the members before the general public as well as in any relevant Government Board or Statutory Authority or Institution. Main objectives of MCPG (2) To affiliate and co-operate with any organization with similar objectives, as may be deemed necessary to enhance the objectives of the Guild, by the Supreme Council. To assist the country to enjoy better pharmacy care through quality pharmaceutical products and effective medication management. To monitor a proper distribution and sustained growth of the community pharmacies by collaborating with the relevant Government Authorities. To strength bona fide management of the community pharmacy, as required by the Pharmacy Legislation. To improve management control of the community pharmacies. Thank you!
