GREGOR MENDEL Gregor Mendel, known as the "father of modern genetics," was born in Austria in 1822. A monk, Mendel discovered the basic principles of heredity through experiments in his monastery's garden. His experiments showed that the inheritance of certain traits in pea plants follows particular patterns, subsequently becoming the foundation of modern genetics and leading to the study of heredity. WHAT IS HEREDITY? Refers to the passing of genetic factors from parents to offspring or from one generation to the next. It is the biological process of transferring genetic information in the form of physical or mental characteristics from the parent to their children. Passed through asexual production and sexual production. NATURE OR NURTURE? Nature refers largely to our genetics. It includes the genes we are born with and other hereditary factors that can impact how our personality is formed and influence the way that we develop from childhood through adulthood. Nurture encompasses the environmental factors that impact who we are. This includes our early childhood experiences, the way we were raised, our social relationships, and the surrounding culture.
