The 19th Century Suffrage ANGELINA & SARAH GRIMKE The role model of public speaking among women in 1830's Placed an ad in local paper to discuss in a convention: social, civil,& religious conditions and rights of woman. Met in 1838. Anti Slavery London Convention 1840, organized the 07/19/1848 LUCRETIA MOTT Seneca Fall Convention. ABBY KELLY FOSTER * Frances Willard as a girl was a big fan of Abby's * Lucretia worked with Sojourner Truth speeches on abolition. * 1874 F. Willard founded WCTU to support Temperance movement They partnered in 1851 Elizabeth Cady Stanton (Suffrage) Susan B. Anthony Lucy Stone * Thinker & Writer (main author of the declation of sentiments) *Speaker & Organizer *1860s Mary Ann Shadd Cary worked alongside with Elzabeth & Susan * 1878 In a speech at the NWSA convention, she tied suffrage to to the action of political parties. 1865 Formed AERA (Pillsbury helped draft declation) Elizabeth Stanton Lucy Stone Susan B. Anthony NWSA AWSA Julia Howard Howe * Stayed with 19th Amendment * Supported 15th & 19th Amendment * 1869 Isabella Beecher Hooker wrote to Elizabeth Stanton & Susan B. Anthony & she joined suffrage cause. * 1871 she tried to mend fences between NWSA & AWSA. 1890 they got reunited. * 1875 - Matilda Joslyn Gage was the president of NWSA. * Together with founders of NWSA wrote the History of Woman's Suffrage Vol 1 documeting up to 1885.
