Summary

This study guide reviews major characteristics of plants, compares them to other living things, and contrasts vascular and nonvascular plants. It also examines angiosperms and gymnosperms, plant structures and cellular transport. Further topics include plant tropisms, plant hormones, and reproduction.

Study Guide Ch. 8-9 - **List major characteristics of plants as a kingdom and compare their characteristics to other living things.** 1. Plants are Eukaryotic, while most organisms are prokaryotic. Most plants are multicellular. They have plastids, such as chloroplasts which are a kind of cellular organelle. 2. They have cell walls made of cellulose, while most organisms have cell walls made of different material. 3. All plants have tissues, but only vascular plants have vascular tissues. 4. Most plants are producers, or they perform photosynthesis, while most other organisms are consumers. 5. Plants have multi-stage life cycle, like most organisms. - **Compare and contrast vascular versus nonvascular plants.** - **Describe the environment necessary for a nonvascular plant to be successful.** - **Compare/contrast angiosperms and gymnosperms.** **Angiosperms** **Gymnosperms** ------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------------------- Seeds are fully covered, surrounded by a fruit Seeds are not fully covered -- all exposed in some manner Flowering plants Do not produce flower - **Describe basic plant structures as well as how cellular transport is utilized within the plant.** - - - - **Explain how cell walls and turgor pressure support plants.** - **Explain the different plant tropisms and the different plant hormones and what they do for plants.** - **Compare and contrast short-day and long-day plants.** - **Compare and contrast different types of reproduction in vascular/nonvascular seed-producing and seedless plants as well as nonvascular plants.** - **Compare and contrast how gymnosperms and angiosperms reproduce.** - **Identify the structures of a flower and describe the function of each structure within the flower.** - **Also, look at study guide given, screenshots, and notes.** -  [Chapters 8 & 9 Review Slides](https://www.pottersschool.org/asset/09A48F33D325C7A46F0D5EF047C96C86/)
