Stress and Depression Study Guide Stressors- something that causes a state of strain or tension. Eustress and stress can affect your mind and body, but it is NOT ALL BAD. The stress must be relieved of the tension though. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain. Warning...
Stress and Depression Study Guide Stressors- something that causes a state of strain or tension. Eustress and stress can affect your mind and body, but it is NOT ALL BAD. The stress must be relieved of the tension though. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain. Warning signs of depression: feelings of sadness or irritability; loss of interest or pleasure in activities; changes in weight or appetite; changes in sleep patterns; feeling guilty, hopeless or worthless; inability to concentrate, remember thing or make decisions; fatigue, or loss of energy; restlessness or decreased activity noticed by others; thoughts of death or suicide. Clinical depression: a low mood or loss of interest that lasts most of the day, and lasts every day for 2 weeks or more. To effectively diagnose and treat depression, the doctor must hear about specific symptoms of depression. The doctor will discuss any family history of depression or other mental illness. Clinical depression is usually treated with both medicine (antidepressants) and counseling (talk therapy). Stress can affect areas of our life: - Physical: Headache, muscle tension/pain, chest pain, fatigue, skin issues, stomach upset, sleep problems. - Mental: Anxiety, restlessness, lack of motivation, irritability or anger, sadness or depression, forgetfulness, nervousness, exhaustion,. - Social: Overeating/undereating, oversleeping, angry outbursts, drug or alcohol abuse, tobacco use, rude attitude, emotional outbursts, social withdrawal.
