SHOULDER JOINT Mohamed Osman Mohamed Idres MBBS, Msc, MRCS 2 Objectives: To identify the following in the shoulder joint: Type. Articulation of bones. Capsule. Ligaments. Arteries that give the blood supply Nerves of the joint. Movements. Radiological appearance in X-ray image. Think about this 3 Ashruf is 40 years old taxi driver, he presented to the emergency department in Omdurman military hospital following a car accident, he reported pain in his left shoulder. O/E he was conscious, pulse rate 90 bpm, respiratory rate was 24/minute and BP 110/70, his arm was abducted and externally rotated, after radiological investigation the doctor reached the diagnosis: anterior shoulder dislocation. Introduction: lecture's map 4 Type. Articulation. Capsule. Ligaments. Blood supply and innervation. Movements. X-ray image appearance. 5 Type of joint Synovial joint. Type of synovial joint : ball-and-socket 6 Articulation Head of humerus with the gleniod cavity of the scapula. Thegleniod cavity is deepenedby the ring-like, glenoid labrum. 7 Glenoid cavity Imagefrom: Richard L.Drake, WayneVogl,Adam W.M.Mitchell, GRAYS anatomy for students,ElsevierInc. 2007 Articulation Imagefrom: Richard L.Drake, WayneVogl,Adam W.M.Mitchell, GRAYS anatomy for students,ElsevierInc. 2007 8 Capsule 9 Medially: Attached to the margins of the glenoid cavity. Lateraly: Attached to the anatomical neck of the humerus. 1 0 Imagefrom: Richard L.Drake, WayneVogl,Adam W.M.Mitchell, GRAYS anatomy for students,ElsevierInc. 2007 Capsule 11 It has two openings: O ne to pass the tendon of the biceps brachii.
