SJMP Music – Mr. Stepanian Senior Music Exam - Music Theory Topics Exam is this Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025, in Room 108 (NOT Music), starting at 8:30 am sharp during our class period. This exam will be worth 10% of your final mark. Make sure to bring your OWN pencil AND eraser. If you have an IEP you must speak to me about writing in Resource. Blank keyboard will be provided 🙂 Theory: Treble and Bass Clef, all notes including ledger lines Pattern of the keyboard including all enharmonic keys Key Signatures o remember the rules for sharps and flats o remember the acronyms BEADGCF and FCGDAEB o know the pattern of sharps/flats when actually drawing on a staff Intervals o whole and half steps, octaves o major, perfect, augmented, diminished o know how to find these intervals going up or down All rhythmic values from whole to sixteenth notes and rests o know how they all relate to each other, how many fit into the other, dotted notes, etc. o Review how to fill in the count/write the beats like on the Rhythm Studies sheets Enharmonic Equivalents o remember that it is the same pitch just written differently (ex. G#/Ab) and it has to be a different letter Time Signatures: 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 (Common) o Cut Time - remember it is twice as fast as 4/4 and that a half note gets 1 beat (2/2) Know basic musical markings like tempo, dynamics, articulations, etc. Happy Studying!
