Architecture gallery Scene 1  Hi guys. Welcome to Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia. I am your guide, Sally. We are going for a fun and exciting tour through three amazing galleries. Are you ready? Let’s Go! Scene 2  Now, we are on the first floor. And our first stop is in Architecture gallery. Here, we have 23 cool models of mosque and mausoleums from different part of the Islamic world, including the middle east, Central Asia, India, China and Southeast Asia. Scene 3  This is the model of Al-Haram Mosque that is located in the city of Mecca and has a special building at its center called the “Ka'aba”. The word "Ka'aba" means "square house" in Arabic. Muslims all over the world face toward the “Ka'aba” when they pray. The Hajj is an important journey that every Muslim should try to make at least once in their life. During Hajj, people walk around the “Ka'aba” together as a symbol of solidarity and faith. The model you see here was made in 1998. Since then, the real mosque has become even bigger than what the model shows! Scene 4  Now, get ready for more fun as we head to the next gallery. Let’s step in and find out! Scene 5  Here, we have arrived at the second gallery which is Al-Quran and Manuscripts gallery. This gallery is divided into two sections. On the right is the Qur’an collection ranging from 8th century until 19th century AD. Qur'ans from various countries portray a variety of designs and motifs which represent the identity of a nation as well as local art works. On the left is the collection of other manuscripts on astronomy, botany, medicine, royal genealogy, miniature paintings and Persian marriage certificates. Scene 6  In the Al-Quran and Manuscript gallery, you will find this one special artefact known as the Kiswah. The walls of the Ka’aba are covered with a piece of cloth called the Kiswah. Where it is draped over the Ka’aba during the month of Dhu al-hijjah. It is made in Mecca in black silk with calligraphic verses in thuluth script in zigzag pattern The display piece here is known as Sitara or Burqu’ and it is changed every year. Embroidered with gold and silver calligraphic inscriptions, this particular kiswah hung over the Ka’aba in 1964. Scene 7  Are you still here with me? Now, let’s move to the next stop—India Gallery! Follow me and let's discover new things together! Scene 8  The India Gallery is all about the Mughal era in India, which lasted from 1526 to 1857 AD. The Mughal empire were famous for their amazing art that influenced every part of their daily lives. The gallery that we are here now, is divided into two sections. The first section gives you a peek into how the Mughals ran their empire. You’ll get to check out some really cool artifacts they used for hunting and running things, like their administrative duties. Scene 9  The second section dives into the personal lives of the Mughal emperors. Here, you will discover items related to their families, personal interests, and spiritual practices. Every piece in the gallery shows how the Mughal era turned, even everyday objects into works of art! Scene 10  This miniature painting from Mughal era was different from regular Islamic art, due to the illustration of human and animals figure. These small, detailed paintings still loved today because they are both beautiful and show us what life was like in those luxurious times. Miniatures from this era filled with images of rulers, courtiers and horses, along with useful scenes of fashion and interior design.
