BSCS – 4B October 6, 2024  It’s crucial for us to have rules to adhere to maintain a balanced and well-functioning community. Without such rules to govern us, we won’t be able to enjoy life while protecting each other’s rights. As a future computing professional, ACM Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct ensures fair and just practices in the field of technology. ACM Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct establishes a strong foundation for trust, fairness, and accountability. One’s action can change the world. For us to act responsibly, we should reflect upon the wider impacts of our work, consistently supporting the public good. The Code is designed to guide the aspirations of all computing professionals, divided into four sections: General Ethical Principles, Professional Responsibilities, Professional Leadership Responsibilities, and Compliance with the Code. The first part are principles that encourage computing professionals to prioritize societal well-being over purely technical concerns. We know for a fact that when technology is used in a bad light, it could cause serious destruction. Ethical decision-making is positioned as fundamental to achieve a positive impact. Second, professionals are highly encouraged to be competent and professional in adhering to laws. Continuous learning is vital as technology evolves rapidly. Third, it protects from ‘villain’ boss, ethical leadership is essential to fostering a healthy workplace environment. Leaders set the tone for how ethics are prioritized in the organization. Lastly, the code ensures that trust and responsibility within the computing profession, and ethical breaches are identified and resolved. With the ACM code of ethics and Professional Conduct, are not just rules for nothing, it helps us IT students to realize the gravity of our actions. In line with the need to improve lives through technology, we must protect others, minimizing harm for a better future for all.
