Hazards on the Job Site Flying Objects Chemicals Burns Vapors Radiant Energy Crush Hazards Cuts & Punctures Rotating Tools & Electrical Shock Machines Slips & Falls Bio Hazards Compressed Air Explosions Fire Flying Objects Sparks Debris Sawdust Burns Very Common and Painful First, Second, and 3rd degree Nose and Ears Burns Caused by Radiant Energy To avoid: – WEAR CORRECT PPE Radiant Energy Light Ultraviolet – Not Visible Infrared – Not visible Visible Light Arc Welding produces all 3 types Cuts and Punctures Metal Wire Splinters Welding rods First Aid Immediately Electrical Shock Rubber Sole Shoes Damaged Insulation GFCI: Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter NEC Slips and Falls Damp Floors Poor Footing Poor Footwear (incorrect PPE) Overreaching Hurrying Compressed Air Damage Eyes and Ears Easily Cleaning Equipment Too Much Pressure Kinking the Hose Death Chemicals Acid Cleaners Solvents Fuel – Gasoline Paint & Thinner Pesticides Immediately seek MSDS Vapors Chemical Vapors Galvanized metal Contaminated Metal Poisonous Fumes – Paint, etc. Crush Hazards Falling Material Tractor Pinch Points Feet, Hands, Fingers Structural Failure Overloads Rotating Tools and Machines Proper Clothing Warning Labels Hair Ties Make sure tools are Properly Adjusted. Bio Hazards Needles Blood Manure Urine Organic matter Bacterial Infection Explosions Closed Containers Contaminated Containers Improper Grounding of Welder Build up of Fumes Oxygen Reactions to Oil. Fire Keep Flammables Fire extinguishers picked up. Type A – Wood, Know where Paper, Cloth extinguishers are. Type B – Liquids Frayed Clothing Type C – Electrical Hair ABC – Multipurpose, Oily Clothing dry chemical, metals Types of Fires Type A – Wood, Paper, Cloth Type B – Liquids (grease, oil, paints, solvents) Type C – Electrical Type D - Combustible metals (magnesium) Type K- commercial cooking (animal fat, cooking oil) Write this chart on a separate sheet of paper: Type A - Wood, paper, Type B- Liquids Type C - Electrical Type D - Combustible Metal Type K - Cooking Ventilation Prevent build up of harmful vapors Open a door Use a Fan Prevent build up of Flammable Vapors Good Housekeeping A clean shop will keep you clean and safe. We will sweep EVERY DAY!! Don’t sweep debris out the door!! Clean and put tools in their proper place. Take care of the Equipment. We will not be released until everything is put where it belongs, and the shop is CLEAN to Mrs. Hagedorn’s standards General Safety Tips Use your head – Common Sense NO HORSEPLAY!!!!! Proper PPE. NO exceptions. Keep Tools in proper working condition Use tools for the job it was intended for General Safety Tips Make sure you know how to use the tool - You will be required to take a test on EVERY thing you plan on using. - No 100% = no using If a tool breaks, Tell Mrs. Hagedorn immediately! Keep out of “Danger Zones” when not using a machine General Safety Tips Store all Tools in it’s definite place Take Your time!!! Nothing is a rush, EVER. There will be NO destruction of property i.e. destroying tools or materials, writing/drawing on equipment, or creating anything that could be deemed inappropriate by Mrs. Hagedorn. – Automatic office visit. Period. My Expectations of YOU Mature attitudes and Be Respectful behavior resulting in a Realize that it is safe shop. everyone’s job to keep Work Hard the shop clean & safe.
