# EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. S-29-15 ## RECOGNITION OF SAME SEX MARRIAGES ### PURPOSE: To ensure that the City of Omaha remains in compliance with various decisions of the United States Supreme Court in recognizing same sex marriages. ### POLICY: The City of Omaha will provide employee benefits (including without limitation insurance, pension, health and dental benefits) to City employees and their same sex spouses who are legally married to the same extent as those benefits have previously been extended to men and women who are legally married, subject to the terms, conditions and limitations of the particular employee benefit. Effective with the qualifying event of June 26, 2015, the City will interpret the term "spouse" as used in any of its employee benefits plans, collective bargaining agreements, City ordinances and legally mandated benefits to include any person who is legally married to a City employee, regardless of the gender of that person. BY THE POWER VESTED IN ME AS MAYOR BY SECTION 3.04 OF THE HOME RULE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF OMAHA, 1956, AS AMENDED, I HEREBY PROCLAIM THIS TO BE THE EXECUTIVE ORDER ESTABLISHING AND GOVERNING SAME SEX MARRIAGES.
