# Ancient Philosophers' Approach to Theories Ancient philosophers did not attempt to prove their theories through practical experiments, as modern scientists do. Instead, their theories stemmed from abstract thought, debates, and discussions, without empirical evidence. Modern scientists, in contrast, do not accept a theory without experimental validation. Even if ancient philosophers had conducted experiments to support the existence of atoms, the understanding of chemistry and material science was limited during that time. Appropriate equipment for studying matter also wasn't available. Consequently, the concept of atoms remained a mystery for many centuries, even until around 500 years ago.
