Her work has been translated into over thirty languages and has Chimamanda appeared in various Ngozi Adichie publications, including The New Yorker, Granta, The O. Henry Prize Stories, the Financial “PURPLE HIBISCUS” — is her debut novel, it was first published by Algonquin Books in 2003. Which won the Commonwealth Writers Prize and the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. “HALF OF A YELLOW SUN” — Published in 2006 by 4th Estate in London, the novel tells the story of the Biafran War through the perspective of the characters Olanna, Ugwu, and Richard. Which won the Orange Prize and was a National Book Critics Circle Award Finalist and a New York Times Notable Book. Aminatta Forna is a Scottish, born in Glasgow but raised in Sierra Leone. She is the author of a memoir, The Devil That Danced on the Aminatta Forna Water: A Daughter's Quest, and four novels: Ancestor Stones, “THE DEVIL THAT DANCED ON THE WATER” — is a 2002 book by Aminatta Forna about her childhood and an investigation into the execution of her father. An extraordinarily brave account of her family's experiences living in war- torn Sierra Leone. “THE MEMORY OF LOVE” — is a 2010 novel about personal stories of love and loss within the wider context of the devastation of the Sierre Leone civil war and was nominated for the Orange Prize for Fiction. Nadine Gordimer was a South African writer and political activist, and received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1991. She works powerfully explore Nadine Gordimer social, moral, and racial issues in a South Africa under apartheid rule. “BURGER’S DAUGHTER” — first published in the United Kingdom in June 1979 by Jonathan Cape. Follows the struggles of a group of anti-apartheid activists, and was read in secret by Nelson Mandela during his time on Robben Island. Alain Mabanckou is a novelist, journalist, poet, and academic, a French citizen was born in 1966 in Congo-Brazzaville. He is currently a Professor of Literature at UCLA. He is best known for his novels Alain Mabanckou and non-fiction writing depicting the experience of contemporary Africa and the African diaspora in France. “BLUE-WHITE-RED” — published in 1998, his first novel received the Sub- Saharan Africa Literary Prize in 1999. Ben Okri is a Nigerian-British poet and novelist. Was born in 1959 in Minna, Northern Nigeria. He grew up in London Ben Okri before returning to Nigeria with his family in 1968. “THE FAMISHED ROAD” In 1991 Okri was awarded the Booker Prize for Fiction for his novel “The Famished Road. The first book in a trilogy that continues with Songs of Enchantment and Infinite Riches. Question: 1. What are the most common theme of African Literature? 2.
