State Laws – laws that are promulgated and enforced by the State. Other Sources ______________________________________________________ RA 9266 - Short title: Architecture Act of 2004 - Comprehensive Regulation for the Registration, Licensing and Practice of Architecture - Repealing Clause of RA 545 “ ACT TO REGULATE THE PRACTICE OF ARCHITECTURE IN THE PHILIPPINES” - Provides a comprehensive regulation for registration, licensing, and practice of architecture. Definition of Terms: Architecture- Art, science or profession of planning and constructing buildings in their totality taking into account their environment in accordance with the principles of utility, strength, and beauty. Architect- a person professionally and academically qualified, registered and licensed under this act with a certificate of registration and professional identification card issued by PR BOA and PRC. Architect of record- responsible for the total design of the project and has the CIVIL LIABILITY for the plans she/he signed and sealed. Architect-in-charge-of construction- responsible for the construction supervision of the project Consulting Architect- with exceptional/ recognized expertise in any branch of architecture - Has no civil liability under : art. 1723 of the Civil Code unless he/she attempts to interfere with the legal and professional functions of the Architect in Record. General Practice of Architecture- Act of planning and architectural designing, structural conceptualization, specifying, supervising, and giving administration/direction to the erection, enlargement or alterations of buildings. - Orderly coordination of ALL the processes which enter into the production of a complete building Structural Conceptualization- Act of conceiving, choosing, and developing, the type, disposition, arrangement, and proportioning of the structural elements of an architectural work, giving due consideration to safety, cost-effectiveness, functionality, and aesthetics. Architectural Firm- Proprietorship, partnership, or a corporation registered with the proper government agencies. Board- Professional Regulatory Board of Architecture (PRBOA) Commission- Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Service Agreement- written contract about scope of services and compensations Syllabi- the outlines embodying topics and concepts of major subjects prescribed in specific course of study to serve as basis for test questions in the licensure examinations. DEFINITION OF TERMS (Some terms only): Abatement-An act that removes or neutralizes a fire hazard. Combustible- A material that is easily set on fire Corrosive liquid- A liquid that can cause a fire when it comes into contact with organic matter or certain chemicals Fire Alarm - Any visual or audible signal produced by a device or system to warm the occupants of the building or fire fighting elements of the presence or danger of fire Fire Door - A fire resistive door prescribed for openings in fire separation walls or partitions. Fire Hazard - Any condition or act which increases or may cause an increase in the probability of the occurrence of fire, or which may obstruct, delay, hinder or interfere with firefighting operations and the safeguarding of life and property Fire Protective And Fire Safety Device - Any device intended for the protection of buildings or persons to include but not limited to built-in protection system such as sprinklers and other automatic extinguishing system, Overloading - The use of one or more electrical appliances or devices which draw or consume electrical current beyond the designed capacity of the existing electrical system. Smelting - Melting or fusing of metallic ores or compounds so as to separate impurities from pure metals. Sprinkler System - An integrated network of hydraulically designed piping installed in a building, structure or area with outlets arranged in a systematic pattern which automatically discharges water when activated by heat or combustion products from a fire’. Standpipe System - A system of vertical pipes in a building to which fire hoses can be attached on each floor, including a system by which water is made available to the outlets as needed. Vestibule - A passage hall or antechamber between the outer doors and the interior parts of a house or building. Vertical Shaft - An enclosed vertical space of passage that extends from floor to floor, as well as from the base to the top of the building. ____________________________________________ DOORS Door opening by means of EGRESS: 915 mm Clear width of the doorway when the door is open 90 degrees shall be measured.
