PROPERTIES OF A WELL- WRITTEN TEXT Organization- logically arranged idea or message, clear and readable ; can be achieved through the physical format (ex. headings and subheadings, bullet points or font emphasis), signal words (textual cues as linear narration, question and answer), structure (framework of the text as Beginning: thesis statement, Middle: supporting details, End: conclusion, summary, final message) PROPERTIES OF A WELL-WRITTEN TEXT Coherence & Cohesion- the text is easier to follow and understand; there is a connection of ideas to the central concept of a text (cohesion) and there is a relationship of ideas between sentences (coherence). 5 PROPERTIES OF A WELL-WRITTEN TEXT Unity- the sub points and supporting details are relevant to the theme or idea of the text 6 PROPERTIES OF A WELL-WRITTEN TEXT Language Use- the choice of right words that accurately capture your ideas as a writer; can be achieved by avoiding: Misused Words Words with Unwanted Connotations Technical or Highfalutin Words 7 PROPERTIES OF A WELL-WRITTEN TEXT Mechanics- considered the conventions in writing such as: spelling, punctuation, and capitalization 8 ACTIVITY In small groups, have students discuss what they think about the following questions. 1.
