They should listen to you, and act in a fair and balanced way to try and make things right for you. You can expect to hear from the police within 15 working days about whether the complaint has been recorded. If it has not been recorded you should receive an explanation on why not. You have the right to appeal again, and have a high- ranking police officer look at your case. If the complaint is not referred to the IOPC, it will be dealt with by an investigation or local resolution (police force explaining, apologising or satisfying the prisoner that appropriate action is being taken). You will receive a letter from the police force explaining what the local resolution is and information about the right to appeal if you are unhappy with the outcome. 12 qmul.ac.uk qmul.ac.uk 13 The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) The IOPC investigates complaints about the police in England and Wales.
