Physical Resources: The Land 1.Identify ways in which the land is used as a resource in the Caribbean. 2\. Explain the types of vegetation found in the Caribbean and the importance of them. Ways in which the land is used as a resource in the Caribbean. Primary physical resources of the Caribbean- Land, vegetation (forests), wildlife (animals), minerals. Land is used for agricultural production. Caribbean countries produce a wide variety of agricultural crops such as sugar cane, citrus, coffee and bananas. In addition to growing crops, many farmers keep domesticated animals, for food, clothing or as work animals. Vegetation- wild and cultivated plants provide food for humans and animals. People also use plants as a source of shelter and for medicinal and ornamental purposes. Vegetation helps to protect the soil from erosion. Forests are the main water-catchment areas and are habitats for plants and animals. Land is used for agricultural production and providing mineral wealth. Minerals are used to create materials and tools that are used by man. Land use through agriculture, forestry, mining and industry, gives the people of the Caribbean their livelihood.
