PHOTOSYNTHESI S AGENDA What is photosynthesis? Water and mineral for plant growth 2 HOW DOES PLANT MAKE THEIR OWN FOOD? Introduction ⮚ All living beings require food for energy. ⮚ Animals and plants need food ⮚ Animals get their food from plant products and animal products ⮚ Plants on the other hand manufacture their own food 4 WHAT IS PHOTOSYNTHESI S AND WHY IS IT NECESSARY FOR PLANTS ? PHOTOSYNTHESIS Making of food in the presence of light is the meaning of the word photosynthesis. Plants make their food in their kitchen that is their leaf. Also called food factory of the plant 6 RAW MATERIALS REQUIRED BY THE PLANTS Water Sunlight Carbon dioxide 7 TRANSPIRATION six carbon dioxide molecules and six water molecules, are converted by light energy captured by chlorophyll (implied by the arrow) into a sugar molecule and six oxygen molecules, the products. 8 AEROBIC RESPIRATION Aerobic respiration is the respiration where glucose is broken down by oxygen to release energy along with carbon dioxide and water being produced as by-products of the reaction. It occurs both day and night as oxygen is present in daytime also. 9 1.2 WATER AND PLANT GROWTH Importance of water 1. Photosynthesis 2. Support 3. Chemical reaction 4. As a solvent 5. Cooling/ transpiration 6. Transport 10 WHY DO PLANTS NEED WATER? Photosynthesis: Water is a key ingredient in photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert sunlight into energy. Transport: Water acts as a solvent, carrying essential nutrients from the soil to all parts of the plant. Structural Support: Water helps maintain plant structure by creating turgor pressure, which keeps stems and leaves firm. Temperature Regulation: Water helps regulate plant temperature through transpiration, a process where water evaporates from leaves, cooling the plant. 11 1.3 MINERAL SALTS & PLANT GROWTH Mineral Salt Insectivorous Nutrients that are essential for Plants that consume insect and plant growth are known as mineral small animals salt. Insectivorous plants have chlorophyll We can add fertilizer to soil for But they don’t get sufficient amount providing with nutrients 12 TYPES OF FERTILISERS Organic Fertilser Inorganic Fertilser 13 ORGANIC FERTILISER ANIMAL FISH BONE MEALS DECOMPOSIN DUNG G PLANT MATTER 14 DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORGANIC AND INORGANIC Organic Fertilizer Inorganic Fertilizer Derived from natural Manufactured by Chemicals materials Less expensive Expensive than organic Improves soil structure Can’t improves soil structure and and texture texture Its not easy to control Easy to control amounts of amount of nutrients specific nutrients added added Can help to check soil Don’t help to check soil erosion erosion Not best for those plants Best for plants that need a lot of need a lot of nitrogen and phosphates nitrogen and phosphates Can be more difficult to Have a lengthy shelf life and are store and may go bad typically simple to store 15 THANKYOU Ms. Anum Ali 16
