Traditional Dances- - Dances that reflect a country's culture. - Could be ethnic, folk or ceremonial dances. LUZON- - Influenced by Hindu-Buddhist, Spanish and other ethnic groups that they interacted with. LUZON DANCES: 1. Banga - "Pot" - Depicts women fetching water from rivers - Igorot and Kalinga Mountain provinces - Women had to balance or dance with 8 pots on their heads 2. Idaw - "Bird" - Hunting ritual - Bontoc - Performed by men wearing Bahag 3. Idudu - Depicts a day in the life of a family - Itning/ Tinggen - Abra, Cordillera 4. Maglalantik - Also known as Magbabao - Depicts a war for coconut meat or "latik" - Usually performed by men with coconuts as their props - Binan, Laguna 5. Sayaw sa Bangko - Lingayen, Pangasinan - Performed with some acrobatics - Pair had to dance while balancing on long chairs or "bangko" VISAYAS- - Unlike other regions, were more intermittent and fast-paced - Influenced by Western countries VISAYAS DANCES: 1. Tinikling - Inspired by the movements of the bird "tikling" - Tikling bird avoiding stems and bamboo traps laid out by farmers - Involves a pair dancing while another pair would beat and slide bamboo poles on the floor - Leyte Province 2. Gapnod - "flotsam" - Reenactment of the discovery of the image of St. Anthony of Padua - Negros Oriental 3. La Berde - "Green" - Talamban, Cebu - Courtship usually involving 2 girls and 1 boy 4. Kuradang - Upbeat wedding dance - Bohol - Rondalla accompaniment 5. Itik tik - Movements of flying ducks called "itik" - Surigao del Sur MINDANAO -- - Inspired by Muslim and Moro/ Islamic groups - Influenced by Arabian and Middle Eastern Countries MINDANAO DANCES: 1. Singkil - Maranao - Performed by royal blood to indicate that they are ready for suitors - Inspired by the Indian epic "Ramayana" - Depicts a princess escaping from a demon - Colorful costumes and plants 2. Pangalay - "fingernail dance" - Tausug people from Sulu archipelago and Sabah - A delicate dance - Performed by Badjaos and sea gypsies 3. Asik - Solo dance performed by a maiden - Depicts a slavery girl ready to give herself to a master - Involves long beads and colorful scarves BENEFITS OF DANCING 1.
