PEH 3_Q2_REVIEWER Reading is the best and only way to master a lesson. Edsel Harry R. Turda Dance Health and Injury Prevention Hyperthermia is characterized by elevated body temperature and can pose a risk in dance activities. To avoid dance injuries, one should eat well, stay hydrated, get to know their body condition, and avoid overtraining. Strategies to prevent dance injuries include correct body alignment, stretching, and proper warm-up and cool-down. Ankle sprains are the most common traumatic injury among dancers. Ankle impingement occurs when tissues at the ankle get pinched, typically at the front or back of the ankle. Inexperience makes beginners like Mary vulnerable to injuries. Overtraining is a key factor increasing the risk of injury in high-intensity preparation. Poor fitness, such as weak muscles, can increase the likelihood of injury. Snapping Hip syndrome is characterized by a snapping sound in the front of the hip during certain movements. Achilles tendonitis is the inflammation of the tendon at the back of the ankle, important for foot movement. Dance Etiquette and Behavior Dance etiquette is a set of guidelines for social behavior in dance settings. All strategies (alignment, stretching, warm-up, cool-down) are essential to prevent injuries. Posture is a critical aspect of body mechanics for dancers. Politely declining a dance is part of proper dance etiquette. In case of mistakes on the dance floor, such as stepping on someone’s dress, it's considered no fault dancing. Dancers should follow the line of dance, avoid collisions, and be polite on the dance floor. Health and Physical Activity Social dancing has various health benefits, such as reducing stress, improving heart health, and enhancing muscle tone, but it should not increase stress. Getting a lift to school is a sedentary form of transportation. Healthy diets do not contribute to the risks associated with sedentary lifestyles. Assessment refers to the evaluation of health status, such as calculating BMI. Intensity describes how hard the body is working during an activity. Examples of moderate-intensity dances include cha-cha and waltz, but aerobics is considered high-intensity. Examples of vigorous intensity activities include salsa, dance sport, and hip hop, but tango is moderate intensity. Physical activity involves movement produced by skeletal muscles, leading to energy expenditure. Dance Professionals and History Carmen Andin is a renowned dance writer and founder of the Dance Education Association of the Philippines. Francisca Aquino is known as the mother of Philippine folk dancing. Photographers/Videographers like Oliver play a role in documenting dance performances. Costume designers like Steph contribute by creating dance costumes. Dance writers like Althea document and publish their observations of dance performances. Physical therapists are crucial in treating and preventing dance-related injuries.
