Hand-washing 40- 60 seconds B- Hand rub 20-30 seconds Personal Hygiene and Attire 2- Headcover Covers the head and ears Single use Discard this head covering and replace it with a new one when re-entering the zone. Personal Hygiene and Attire 3- Gloves : •Approved for the CSSD. •Must be thick with more extended cuffs. •Use gloves for environmental cleaning and handling contaminated reusable medical devices and waste. Personal Hygiene and Attire 4- Mask : •Protect the mouth •Wear fluid-repellent masks with visor eye shields to reduce the risk of transferring microbes to the eyes, nose, and mouth. • These must be fitted properly and worn to cover th eyes, mouth, and nose. •Do not touch the mask or eye shield with your hand while working; remove them immediately if they become moist or visibly soiled, discard them appropriately, and replace them. • Mask Medical Mask Surgical Mask N95 Mask Medical Mask with face shield Personal Hygiene and Attire 5- Gown : •Protects the skin. • A fluid-resistant gown with long cuffed sleeves that can be tucked inside the gloves during the procedure, likely to generate blood or body fluid splashes. •When to change? Change this gown when it becomes soiled or wet, and discard it afterward. They should have long enough cuffs to fit over the cuffs of the gown. •Keep your nails short so you don’t puncture your gloves. •Avoid touching your mask, eyes, or face with gloves once you start work. Personal Hygiene and Attire •Learn how to remove gloves without contaminating your hands or snapping the gloves, which may spread contamination across the room. •Remove used gloves before touching anything contaminated through contact, such as surfaces and pens. •Discard the gloves when you are done or suspect the gloves are torn or perforated. Do not wear make-up or jewelry (except a plain wedding band) in CSSD. You may wear stud earrings that are confined within the head cover in case they come loose. Managing the Central Sterile Supply Department Environment The critical step to maintaining the CSSD environment is controlling the traffic through the main three zones and strictly maintaining the proper heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
