Officers should be aware that the pointing of a Taser at an individual represents a use of force and may in certain circumstances constitute an assault. ### 9.4 Police officers shall give the clear verbal warning 'Taser, Taser' indicating to all persons in the vicinity that Taser is being discharged. **10.** []{#AFTERCARE.anchor} **Aftercare** **11.** []{#POSTINCIDENT.anchor} **Post Incident Procedures** 11.1 In any situations where the Taser is discharged, appropriate post incident procedures will be implemented depending on the nature of the injury or harm occasioned or if the discharge: - - 11.2 The term 'use of the Taser' will include any of the following actions carried out in an operational setting: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 11.3 In the event of an unintentional discharge where there has been no danger to the public, this will be subject to an internal investigation. 11.4 Below is the minimum standard **where possible** of post incident evidence recovery. The availability of evidence collection equipment including cameras and appropriate packaging should be considered. +-----------------------------------+-----------------------------------+ | **Cartridge** | Including wires and probes to | | | show complete and range used at. | | | Not to be spooled. | +-----------------------------------+-----------------------------------+ | **AFIDs** | Two or three to confirm serial | | | number. | | | | | | These are spread randomly and | | | will not show trajectory. | +-----------------------------------+-----------------------------------+ | **Photographs** | Incident detail to show; scene, | | | weapons involved / available to | | | suspect, AFID / officer location, | | | suspect locations, injuries to | | | police / suspect, barbs location. | | | Intention to tell as much of the | | | incident in photographic detail | | | as possible. | +-----------------------------------+-----------------------------------+ | **Taser Deployment Form** | Required for PIM procedures | +-----------------------------------+-----------------------------------+ | **Data-port Download** | Print out of Taser use record | +-----------------------------------+-----------------------------------+ | **Medical Report** | Persons exposed to a taser | | | discharge should be examined by a | | | medical practitioner and a | | | relevant medical report to be | | | submitted. | +-----------------------------------+-----------------------------------+ **12.** []{#BATTERY.anchor}**Battery Maintenance** 12.1 X2 -- Function checks should include checking of battery percentage remaining (Digital Power magazine - DPM) and replacement of batteries when percentage reaches a minimum of 20% on the display for operational Tasers. **13.** []{#DATAPORT.anchor} **Data port auditing** 13.1 An internal data logging system within the Taser records the details of the previous 2000 activations on the X2. This shows the exact time and date that the current was discharged. On the X2 the length of the discharge, temperature and battery condition is also shown. Details of activations can be downloaded via the data port on to computer. 13.2 Taser data will be downloaded on a regular basis. This information will be retained to provide an audit trail of the activation of each Taser. **14.** []{#FUNCTIONTEST.anchor} **Function test** 14.1 A function test must be conducted prior getting issued with a Taser. The function test is done to verify that the CEW\'s core electronics are working properly. 14.2 Use the ARC switch, not the trigger, to perform a spark test. Pulling the trigger switch will deploy a loaded unfired cartridge. 14.3 A 2- to 3-second sustained press of the ARC switch should activate the Warning Arc long enough to hear and see the X2 CEW arc. It is not necessary to extend the duration. 14.4 View the arc from the top or side of the CEW. Do not point the CEW at your face or have it near your face. 14.5 Look at the CID display and verify the following: - 14.5.1 To perform a trigger function test, the following procedure is recommended: - - - - - - - - **15.** []{#STORAGE.anchor} **Storage and Issuing**
