LEC 7 LINUX LINUX  Linux® is an open source operating system (OS).  An operating system is the software that directly manages a system's hardware and resources, like CPU, memory, and storage.  The OS sits between applications and hardware.  Linux provides Open-source software available for everyone to contribute, modify, and enhance the source code.  It is also available for users to download and use for free. Linux is less vulnerable and more secure than Windows operating systems.  Linux is used as an embedded OS for a variety of applications, including household appliances, automotive entertainment systems and network file system appliances. Network OS for routers, switches, domain name system servers, home networking devices and more.  Linux has :  good performance.  It is much quicker AND fast  and VERY smooth. Windows 10 is slow compared to Linux because of running batches at the back end,.  Linux updates are easily available and can be updated quickly. LINUX SECURITY  Linux is the most popular choice for hackers due to its :  flexibility,  open source platform,  Portability  command line interface  compatibility with popular hacking tools. LINUX SECURITY  For most Linux desktop users,  firewalls are unnecessary.  Antivirus is unnecessary.  Linux is used for most of the servers because of its :  High stability.  LINUX FOR ONLINE BANKING  Linux os are always safe for banking as :  There is not any virus or ransomware exists for linux.  Possibility of being hacked is less. It is much safer that many other options as long as you are using modern distribution. LINUX DISTRIBUTIONS  A Linux distribution -- is a version of the open source Linux operating system that is packaged with other components, such as an installation programs, management tools and additional software to be customized based on user DEBIAN DISTRIBUSION  Debian is a Linux-based operating system for a wide range of devices including laptops, desktops and servers.  Providing a reasonable default configuration for every package as well as regular security updates during the packages' lifetimes.  Debian has extensive Hardware Support.  Debian is a good option for stable environment UBUNTU  Ubuntu is a Linux distribution based on Debian and composed mostly of free and open-source software. Ubuntu is officially released in three editions:  Desktop,  Server,  Core UBUNTU  Ubuntu is considered a :  good distribution for beginners.  very robust and secure  fast for programming  up-to-date and desktop-focused.  geared more towards user friendliness KALI  Kali Linux is an open-source, Debian-based Linux distribution geared towards various information security tasks, such as Penetration Testing, Security Research, Computer Forensics and Reverse Engineering. KALI SECURITY  Kali Linux is used by hackers because it is a free OS and has over 600 tools for penetration testing and security analytics.  all the code is available on Git and allowed for tweaking.  Kali has multi-language support that allows users to operate in FEDORA LINUX  Fedora Distribution is mainly used by enterprise-level users who also use the Red Hat Enterprise Linux.  Fedora provides more user- friendly experience.  Fedora is also used for Web Servers, Database Servers, Proxy, VMs, etc ADVANTAGES OF LINUX  Open Source.  Security.  Software Updates.  Customization.  Various Distributions.  Large Community Support.
