To reduce the concentration of a potent toxin in his body, Yushchenko was poisoned by the highly toxic chemical dioxin, which was somehow introduced into his food. He developed liver and pancreatic inflammation as well as a type of disfiguring facial condition known as chloracne. The inflammation subsided, but there is concern that he is now at risk for soft tissue sarcoma, a type of cancer linked to dioxin exposure. Dioxin is fat soluble, concentrates in fatty tissue and is difficult to eliminate from the body. This is where Olestra comes in. This non-absorbable replacement for fats was developed by Procter and Gamble. You can use it for frying, it has the mouth feel of fat and it even sort of tastes like fat.
