Converting videos •How to convert videos What is OBS? OBS is free and open source software for video recording and live streaming. We mainly use this app to capture game audio, video and screenshots. OBS captures the image and the audio from Windows OS itself. The application does not capture directly from the consoles. Launching OBS • Locate the icon on desktop or search for OBS Studio in the windows search bar and open the app (App should be already installed on the PC, if that is not the case then ask your team lead). • You will receive an update notification if the version of OBS installed on your PC is out of date. Updating OBS studio is optional as Administrator credentials are required for installation. (You could ask your team lead if update is mandatory to update). Configuring Video Capture a window – Part 1 1 • The most common situation is when you want to capture video from a window that is displaying the game. 3 That window can be from a Steam game, a console game through target manager/Xbox manager… 2 • To capture a window: 1. On Sources, Click + to add a source 2. Click on Windows Capture 3. Choose a name for the source 4. Click OK 4 Configuring Video 5 Capture a window – Part 2 • To capture a window: 5. In the pop-up window, select the window that you want to capture 6. If you don’t see the game image on the window app you can try to change the capture Method from Automatic to Windows Graphics Capture 7. Click OK 6 Configuring Video Adjust window • Once the window has been chosen, the image might not normally occupy the entire screen, so it has to be adjusted manually. • To resize the image capture in order to fit the entire window, drag the image using the red dots to zoom in. Configuring Audio 1 Capturing audio • To capture audio: On Sources, click + to add a source Audio Output Capture Choose a name for the source Click OK Select the device from which you want to capture. It should be the same as the one you use to listen to your computer's audio 6. If everything is OK, the Audio Output Capture bar should move in sync with game sound. NB: It won't move if you're not playing any sounds 3 2 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 4 5 6 Configuring format All videos need to be in mp4. 1. Select File 2. Select Settings 3. Select Output 4. Change "Recording Format" to mp4 5. Select Apply Recording • The sound from your mike will be automatically recorded! If you don't want that, select the mute button before pressing recording. • When the image is in the desired position and audio is set, you can begin recording by clicking on "Start Recording." • Select "Stop Recording" when you're done. Start Recordin g Output folder Default Output Folder The default Output Folder is: C:\Users\YourUser\Videos You can change the default folder on the main task bar: File > Settings > Output > Recording Path Click icon to add picture Converting videos with OBS While OBS is mainly known for its streaming and video capture functions, it can also be used to convert videos to an MP4 format. 1. Select File. 2. Select Remux Recordings. 3. Drop your video(s) in the left column or select the … icon to browse your files. 4. Select Remux. 5. Select OK.
