Nursing Department Plan for Spring 2024 Attendance Skills/Sim lab courses Note: Nursing is held to a higher standard where infection prevention is concerned. While the mask mandate has been lifted by the college, Nursing students should mask when we are not able to socially distance and when working in the skills lab. We will be on campus frequently this spring. Please note: An exposure and quarantine could cause nursing instructors to miss clinical and nursing students to miss too much time from clinical sites. (Please refer to the absence policy) COVID boosters are required for all healthcare workers including student nurses. As soon as you are eligible to receive a booster, it is your responsibility to obtain the booster and submit proof to the nursing dept. Vaccination and boosters are a requirement of tour clinical partners. Students and Instructors will wear approved face coverings as part of the classroom safety measures when we are not able to social distance, such as in smaller classrooms. 1. Social distancing is preferred when on campus. Students are encouraged to limit close contact to less than 10-15 min. Environmental services will continue to routinely disinfect the door handles, but students are encouraged to use their arm or shoulder to open doors. 2. Students will enter the AA 239 Classroom/Skills lab and wash their hands at the available lab sinks. They will then go to their Manikin/Bed workstation and disinfect it using the protocol and disinfectant provided by the college. Students will disinfect their workstation, bedside table, and their chair. This is the protocol for all on campus activity for nursing students. You will sanitize your workspace and use hand gel. We will review disinfecting workstations the first day of skills lab. 3. Skills lab kits or equipment should be wiped down and kept in a plastic bag on the floor. 4. NO OPEN FOOD OR DRINK IS ALLOWED while in the lab or classroom, and please no food sharing. 5. We plan to divide each class into smaller groups of students to reduce the number of students in attendance in the lab at any one time. The nursing skills lab workstations are marked and are 6 feet apart. Students will practice social distancing in the skills lab and limit contact with instructors when demonstrating skills for check off to minimize contact. 6. Students/Staff are required to STAY HOME/SELF QUARANTINE if they are not feeling well or have had an exposure, regardless of whether they have any symptoms or they are vaccinated and boosted. Procedure: The student or staff member will notify Faculty/Program Director ASAP. They should have a Covid 19 test and quarantine until the results are provided. The student/staff member will follow the direction of the Public Health Dept. to minimize exposure to others. We have rapid tests available free of charge for students. Please see your instructors if you need some tests. Failure to comply with this plan can result in dismissal from the nursing program.
