Citizenship Training It is the training of citizens who question, evaluate and present creative solutions and know their responsibilities and rights. Citizenship education is the training of effective citizens by centralizing the components of social participation, social and moral responsibility. Aim of Citizenship Training It aims to form better citizens who are prepared for the future, have good character, love their homeland, and have a strong sense of nationalism. Citizenship education plays a crucial role in shaping the character of students, building better individuals, and contributing to the nation and the state. 02 THE PHILIPPINE CONSTITUION The Philippine Constitution The Philippine Constitution is the fundamental law of the Republic of the Philippines. It establishes the framework of the Philippine government, delineates the separation of powers among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, and guarantees the rights and freedoms of Filipino citizens. The current constitution, enacted in 1987, was a product of the 1986 People Power Revolution that ended the Marcos dictatorship. It emphasizes democratic governance, social justice, human rights, and national sovereignty. 03 THE PREAMBLE The Preamble We, the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane society, and establish a Government that shall embody our ideals and aspirations, promote the common good, conserve and develop our patrimony, and secure to ourselves and our posterity, the blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and peace, do ordain and promulgate this Constitution. 04 BILL OF RIGHTS The Bill of Rights in the Philippines is a series of protections specified in Article III of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, designed to safeguard the fundamental rights and liberties of its citizens against government infringement. To be loyal to the Republic: this means that the citizen must be proud of his/her country and show absolute allegiance to his/her government. This can be shown through the singing of the National Anthem, giving respect to the National Flag, etc. 2. To love and defend the country — love is shown through deeds and the readiness of the citizen to defend his/her country. 3. To contribute to the development and welfare of the State — this may be shown through paying taxes regularly and willingly, following the State laws, rules and regulations, patronizing local products and trades and etc. Duties and Responsibilities of Filipino Citizens 4. To uphold the Constitution and obey the laws — it is the duty of the citizen to respect the Constitution and ensure that the laws are followed. 5. To cooperate with duly constituted authorities — this entails that the city should also make it his/her concern that State laws should be observed by others as well. 6. To exercise rights responsibly and with due regard for the rights of others. Duties and Responsibilities of Filipino Citizens 7. To engage in gainful work — this emphasizes that the State does not work for its people. Which entails that the citizen should work and become a useful and productive member of society. 8. To register and vote. Additional Responsibilities: Beyond the core duties outlined in Article V, Section 1, the Constitution also highlights other responsibilities of Filipino citizens: 1. Responsible Exercise of Rights: While citizens enjoy various rights, the Constitution emphasizes the responsibility to exercise them with due regard for the rights of others. 2. 4 2.
