Perform occupied and unoccupied bed making 3 This week in lab: In Person Lab Outcomes and Activities:  Bed making practice (occupied and unoccupied)  Bring lab activities to lab as practice will be self directed  May be time for final preparation/practice for Week #6 IPAC testing  Refer to guidelines/rubrics on your LMS  Make sure that you are signed up for IPAC testing for Week #6 upon our return from Break Week. 4 Bed Making & Supporting a Hygienic Environment  Why is this important?  Maintaining health of skin and prevent pressure injuries.  Promoting rest & sleep.  Enabling assessment (e.g., observation).  Provide an environment for safe treatments (e.g., decrease clutter). The Client’s Room, Environment and Maintaining Comfort  Room should be comfortable and safe with adequate space.  Room neat and orderly.  Consider lighting, room temperature and ventilation.  Consider the impact of excess noise. The Client’s Room Environment and Equipment  Basic room equipment includes: overbed table, bedside table, chair, and bed  Beds should be adjustable for comfort.  Bed rails can aid with positioning and turning.  Overbed light.  Call bell within reach.  Why should beds be placed in the Potter & Perry, 2019, p. 941942 lowest position after being made? Common Bed Position Can you describe these common bed positions? The Client’s Environment: Ensuring A Hygienic Room  Beds are usually made in the morning following principles of asepsis.  Soiled linen placed in linen hampers and not placed on floor.  If linen touches floor, consider it soiled.  Linen should be clean, dry and free of wrinkles.  Clean mattress as necessary. Potter & Perry, 2019, p. 942  Bedpans and urinals should be rinsed and stored after use.  Avoid shaking linens.  Keep soiled linen away from uniform What Principles of Body Mechanics would you apply to bed making?
