Parts of A Flower Petals The parts of a flower that are often noticeably colored. Anther Stamen Filament Stamen - The male part of the flower. Anther Anther - produces and holds Stamen pollen Filament Filament Anther - stalk that Stamen holds up Filament the anther Pistil The female part of the flower. Stigma - sticky surface at the top of the pistil - it traps and holds the pollen. Style - tube-like structure that holds up the stigma. Ovary - enlarged basal portion of the pistil that contains the ovules. Sepal The outer parts of the flower, often green and leaf-like, that enclose a developing bud. Receptacle The part of a flower stalk where the parts of the flower are attached. Flower Structure: 1.Perfect Flower has both pistil and stamen Flower Structure: 2.Imperfect Flower has either the pistil or the stamen POLLINATION Transferring of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma SELF-POLLINATION when the pollen from the anther is deposited on the stigma of the same flower, or another flower on the same plant. CROSS-POLLINATION Transfer of pollen from the anther of one flower to the stigma of another flower on a different individual of the same kind of plant. FERTILIZATION Fertilization in flowering plants is when pollen from a flower's male part (the stamen) meets with the ovule in the female part (the pistil) to create seeds Parts of a Fruit: GERMINATION It is the process when a seed grows into a new plant. Needs of Plants Plants can be classified: 1. According to their Structure 2. According to their habitat TREES - tall plants with big woody stems SHRUBS - shorter than a tree - have woody stems - plants with thin VINES long stems that climb up walls and trees. - sometimes crawling on the ground HERBS - fleshy stems that can be easily cut - some herbs can be eaten and also used as medicine GRASS - plants with blade-like leaves - low, green, and non-woody plants XEROPHYTES PLANTS THAT LIVE ON LAND. HYDROPHYTES PLANTS THAT LIVE ON WATER. EPIPHYTES PLANTS THAT GROW ON THE SURFACE OF ANOTHER PLANT.
