WG focused on measuring difficulty functioning in six basic, universal actions (capabilities) that, in an unaccommodating environment, would place an individual at risk of restricted social participation. WG questions were designed to provide comparable data cross-nationally for populations living in a variety of cultures with varying economic resources. FUNCTIONAL DIFFICULTY (B13 TO B18) The Washington Group Short Set on Functioning (WG-SS) Information that results from the use of these questions will, a) represent the majority of, but not all, persons with limitations in basic actions, b) represent the most commonly occurring limitations in basic actions, and c) be able to capture persons with similar problems across countries. FUNCTIONAL DIFFICULTY FOR 5 YEARS OLD AND OVER INTRODUCTION: “The following questions ask about difficulties a Response Categories: person may have doing certain activities because of a HEALTH PROBLEM.” 1 No, no difficulty “Does (NAME) have difficulty in…” 2 Yes, some difficulty B13 Seeing, even if wearing glasses B14 Hearing, even if using hearing aid 3 Yes, a lot of difficulty B15 Walking or climbing steps B16 Remembering or concentrating B17 Self-caring (such as washing all over or dressing) 4 Cannot do at all B18 Communicating using his/her usual (customary) language Read each categories as part of each question 96 B13.
