Neutralization Reactions Chemical reaction between an acid and a base, ehere the acid and base cancel one another out The products of every neutralization reaction are a salt and water Acid + Base→ Salt + Water Many different salts are formed in neutralization reactions; bit all are safe to eat Some are used as water softeners, paints, fertilizers, and other chemical products Neutralization reactions are a special case of double displacement, where the hydrogen ion (H+) from the acid reacts with the hydroxide ion (OH-) from the base. H+ + OH- → HOH or H2O HCL(aq) + NaOH(aq) → H2O(I) + NaCl(aq)
