Podcast Title: Navigating Faith in a Distracted World [Intro Music Fades In] nnesley (Host): A Hey, everyone! Welcome back toNavigating Faith ina Distracted World, where we talk about how to live out your faith in a world that throws distractions at us left and right. I’m your host, Annesley Dennis, and today I have a really awesome guest, Caleb Smith. Caleb is a fellow high schooler, and we’re gonna dive deep into some real-life struggles we face as young Christians. How are you doing today, Caleb? aleb (Guest): C Hey, Annesley! I’m doing great. Excited to be here and talk about this. It’s definitely a topic that hits home for a lot of us. nnesley: A Definitely! So, we all know how overwhelming it can be to try to live out our faith in high school. There’s so much pressure from social media, friends, and just the daily grind of life. I think the big question for today is: How do we, as young Christians, stay grounded in our faith when there are so many distractions and temptations all around us? What’s your take, Caleb? aleb: C That’s a really good question, Annesley. Honestly, I think the biggest challenge for me is social media. You’re constantly seeing things that don’t really align with Christian values — and it’s easy to get caught up in it, right? Whether it’s following the latest trends or seeing people live these "perfect" lives, it can definitely make you question things. I’ve had to learn that I need to set boundaries with it. Like, I have specific times where I’ll check social media, and I’ll unfollow or mute things that don't uplift me or bring me closer to God. nnesley: A That’s so true! Social media can sometimes feel like it’s taking over, and it’s so easy to compare yourself to others. But we know that comparison isn’t the way God wants us to live. It’s all about keeping our eyes on Him. For me, I think the hardest part is trying to avoid things like lust or sinful thoughts. You know, in high school, it’s easy for stuff like that to get normalized, and it can be hard to stay pure. Caleb, how do you navigate those kinds of temptations? aleb: C Yeah, that’s one of the biggest struggles for me too. It’s like everywhere you look, there’s something that encourages lust or makes you think that purity doesn’t really matter. But I’ve learned that it’s about keeping a strong focus on what God says about our bodies and our hearts. One thing that helps me is prayer. I pray a lot about keeping my thoughts pure, specially when I'm tempted. I also try to avoid situations where I know I might fall into e temptation — like making sure I don’t watch things I shouldn’t, or hanging out with people who don’t share my values. nnesley: A Exactly. It’s so important to have that foundation of prayer and be intentional about the spaces we put ourselves in. And even when we mess up, we have to remember that God’s grace is bigger than any mistake. We’re all human, right? It’s easy to feel guilty when we slip up, but God’s forgiveness is always there. aleb: C For sure. I mean, as high schoolers, we’re not perfect. We make mistakes, and sometimes it feels like we’re letting God down. But when we confess our sins, He’s faithful to forgive us. It’s all about getting back up and moving forward. I also find it helpful to have accountability with friends who can encourage me and keep me on track. It’s like having that group that reminds you, “Hey, remember your purpose.” nnesley: A Yeah, accountability is huge! Having a solid friend group that understands your faith journey makes all the difference. It’s easy to get lost in the crowd, especially when everyone around you is doing things that don’t align with your beliefs. But when you surround yourself with the right people, it strengthens you. peaking of staying on track, how do you handle the stress of school and everyday life while S also trying to maintain your relationship with God? Like, how do you keep your priorities straight? aleb: C Oh, that’s a tough one. Between homework, extracurriculars, and just trying to have a social life, it’s easy to let your time with God slip through the cracks. But I try to keep a routine. I make time in the morning, even if it’s just five minutes, to pray or read a Bible verse. I also try to remember that I can talk to God throughout the day — even if I’m just stressed about a test or something going on with a friend. I think God cares about all of those things, not just the “big” spiritual moments. nnesley: A Yes, exactly! God wants to be in all the moments of our lives, not just in our church time or when we’re in a Bible study. I’ve started trying to pray in the middle of my day, even if it’s just a quick “God, help me” when I’m feeling overwhelmed or tempted. It’s those little moments of connection that build up over time. ut, Caleb, I also think it’s important to talk about the pressure of fitting in. In high school, it feels B like you have to be like everyone else to get acceptance. How do you balance being a Christian and staying true to yourself while dealing with that pressure? aleb: C That’s a huge struggle. I think I’ve realized that true friends are the ones who respect your values and who you are. When I was younger, I tried to fit in by doing what everyone else was doing — even if it didn’t feel right. But now, I’ve learned that it’s okay to stand out. It’s okay to say, “No, that’s not for me.” The people who really care about you will respect that, and the ones who don’t, well, they’re not the kind of people you want in your circle anyway. nnesley: A I love that! “True friends respect your values.” That’s so powerful. And in the end, we’re living for God’s approval, not the world’s. Sometimes, that means making tough choices, but it’s always worth it. aleb: C Exactly. It’s all about keeping our eyes on the bigger picture. I’m not perfect, but I know that I’m doing the best I can to live out my faith — and that’s what counts. nnesley: A I couldn’t agree more. Well, Caleb, thank you so much for joining me today. This was such a great conversation. I hope that anyone listening today walks away feeling encouraged and empowered to live out their faith, even when the world tries to distract them. aleb: C Thanks for having me, Annesley. It was awesome talking about this. I hope we can all keep striving to live for God, no matter what’s going on around us. nnesley: A Absolutely. And to everyone listening, remember, you’re not alone in this journey. Keep praying, keep seeking God, and don’t be afraid to stand firm in your faith. Thanks for tuning in to Navigating Faith in a Distracted World. We’ll seeyou next time. [Outro Music Fades In] End of Podcast
