(ECE) Spring 2022 1 ECE 328 Course Contents 1) Review of vector analysis, coordinate systems and transformation. 2) Electrostatics: Coulomb’s law, Gauss’s law, divergence theorem, energy and potential, conductors, dielectrics, capacitances and Poisson‘s and Laplace‘s equations. 3) Magnetostatics: Biot-Savart’s law, Ampere’s law, Stoke’s theorem. 4) Magnetic materials, magnetic dipole and magnetization, inductances. 5) Faraday’s law, time varying fields, Maxwell's equations. 2 Contents Biot-Savart Law Ampere‘s Circuital Law 3 In this lecture we study: Generation of magnetic field from a current distribution The effect of the magnetic field on other currents 4 Biot-Savart Law 5 Biot-Savart Law 6 It is impossible to check experimentally the law of Biot-Savart expressed by 1 or 2 because the differential current cannot be isolated.
