MODULE 4 SPECIAL EVENTS SPECIAL EVENTS  Special events are designed to give customers a specific time and reason to come into a store or to create goodwill.  Most special events are planned and carried out by special events director.  In case of fashion show in co-operation with the fashion director.  The special events office schedules designer guest appearance in the store and sends press releases and invitations for both instore and community events. FASHION SHOWS  Fashion shows are special events that communicate a fashion story.  Selection and organization of the fashion and model bookings may be done by fashion office.  Whereas invitations and other arrangements may be handled y special events department.  The four types of fashion shows are: 1. Formal fashion shows 2. Informal fashion shows 3. Designer trunk shows 4. Department fashion shows FASHION SHOW FORMAL FASHION SHOW Planning, involving booking models and fitting Arranging for a runway, scenery, lighting, microphones, music, seating and assistants. Clothes are generally grouped according to styling, color or other visual criteria. Models and music are selected to complement the clothes and set a mood. Because of the cost these shows are usually reserved for charity events and store looks for co-sponsers to share costs. FASHION SHOW INFORMAL FASHION SHOW  Are easier to produce  Few models walk through the store showing the fashions that they are wearing.  The models can take their time, and customers enjoy asking them questions.  This is often done for special ptomotions. FASHION SHOW DESIGNER TRUNK SHOW:  Are done in cooperation with a single vendor.  A popular way to sell expensive collections  Invitations are sent to the best customers according to records kept by sales associates.  Customers get to see the entire collection unedited by a buyer and may order from samples in their size.  Some designers and retailers do 50% of their retail business through trunk shows. FASHION SHOW DEPARTMENT FASHION SHOW  On a smaller scale ,are produced in store to generate immediate sales.  Usually ,a platform is set up directly in the department that carries the clothes. EXHIBITIONS  Is an organized presentation and display of a selection of items.  Exhibitions usually occur within a cultural or educational setting sch as museum, art gallery, park library, exhibitions hall or world fairs.  Exhibitions can be done in many ways. 1. Art Exhibitions: include an array of artifacts forms of human making such as paintings drawings, crafts, sculptures, video installations, sound installations, performances etc. 2. Interpretive Exhibitions: are exhibitions that require more context to explain the items. True exhibitions are devoted to scientific and historical themes. 3. Commercial Exhibitions: generally called trade fairs, trade shows or expos. Usually organized so that organizations in a specific interest or industry can showcase and demonstrate their latest products, service and examine recent trends and opportunities. 4. Digital Exhibitions: Internet exposure led to the creation of online exhibition or digital exhibitions. TRADE FAIRS  A trade fair is an exhibition organized so that companies in a specific industry can showcase and demonstrate their latest products and services, meet with industry partners and customers, study activities of rivals and examine recent market trends and opportunities.  Only some trade fairs are open to the public.  While others can only be attended by company representatives and members of press.  Therefore trade shows are classified as either public or trade only.  Trade fairs play important roles in marketing as well as business networking in market sectors.
