2.3 Developments of Renewable Energy The Renewable Energy Act of 2008 was established to advocate the renewable energy development in this country. On December 3, 2021, the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) established the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) under the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Resolution No. 08, Series of 2021 [22]. Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) The GEOP is a policy for renewable energy that enables consumers to have the option to source renewable energy for their energy requirement. Advantages of the Green Energy Option Program includes the following [25]: ● Provides a smooth transition from non-renewable energy to renewable energy in the Philippines. ● Encourages global companies to invest in renewable energy plants in the Philippines. ● Supplies their energy consumer demand 100% from renewable energy sources. ● Provides awareness about renewable energy source transition to potential buyers. ● Mitigates the effects of climate change and energy reliability. The following are the renewable energy suppliers under the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) as of February 2023 [23]: Renewable Energy Suppliers Renewable Energy Generated First Gen Solutions, Inc.
