Stages of communication: 1. 2. 3. Long wavelengths produce sounds while shorter wave lengths is in the infrared light spectrum **Biotelemetry** - capability of measuring vital life signs and transmitting them to a distant terminal Distortion of ECG (noise) commonly caused by: - - - - Cell phones operate on 3 watts of power or less and typically limited to 16-24 km over average terrain to a base antenna **Simplex** - Potable radios can only receive or transmit one mode of communication at at time **Duplex** - Use of a multi frequency network that allows for two (2) or more signals concurrently **Base Station** - a collection of radio equipment consisting at minimum of a transmitter, receiver and antenna. The base station serves as a dispatch and coordination area oand ideally should be in contact with all the other elements of the system **Transceiver** - a two way radio mounted in a vehicle **Repeater** - miniature base station used to extend the transmitting and receiving rage of telemetry or voice communications **SBAR** - Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation Disptach responsibilities: - - - - -
