The midterm will include a multiple-choice section, matching questions, short answer (e.g., charts), and an essay-type question. Questions will cover content in readings, class and lab. *Carefully review all lecture and lab slides and activities.* The majority of the exam will address the following learning goals: 1. Explain how Cognitive Neuroscience differs from other types of Psychology 2. Predict a Split-brain patient's responses to a variety of tasks 3. Explain modularity and provide examples of factors that might influence brain specialization. 4. Define associations and dissociations and what can be concluded from each. Using an example, explain what a double dissociation is, what it can tell us about brain-behavior relationships, and be able to graph the results. Be able to explain why double dissociations are considered better than a single dissociation 5. Discuss the pros and cons of case studies and group studies. 6. Explain the difference between domain specificity and expertise accounts of face recognition and provide some evidence for each theory 7. Explain the basics of the various methodologies used in Cognitive Neuroscience, know their advantage and disadvantages, and how they are used to answer questions. 8. Explain subtraction methodology as it applies to functional imaging and/or electrophysiology and how it allows us to make conclusions. 9. Discuss the potential and limitations of using fMRI in courts. 10. Describe what EEG is, and what it can be used for. 11. Describe the difference between EEG and ERPs, and what an ERP component is. 12.
