PSW 1025 Midterm Review Weeks 1-6 *Please note, this is not to supplement your readings, please still read Chapters 10 and 45* WEEK 1 (Medication Management Review of Basic Arithmetic-addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) - What is Medication management and what does it involve? - Factors impacting the healthcare system - Financial limits - Client conditions becoming more complex - Increase in care being delivered in community settings, etc. - Addition: Combining two or more numbers to find the total. - Subtraction: Taking one number away from another to determine the difference. - Multiplication: Repeated addition of a number by itself a certain number of times. - Division: Splitting a number into equal parts or groups. WEEK 2 (Medication Management: Review of Additional Math Skills- Fractions and Decimals) - Fractions: A way to represent numbers that are not whole, with a numerator and a denominator separated by a slash (e.g., 1/2). - Used for meal preparation (measuring) - Decimals: A way to represent numbers with a decimal point, allowing for fractional parts (e.g., 0.5 or 3.25). - Meal planning, budgeting, providing details of what you spent when shopping for the client. WEEK 3 (Medication Management: Review of Additional Math Skills- Ratios, Percentages, and metric conversations) - Percentage: A way of expressing a proportion or ratio as a fraction of 100, often denoted by the symbol "%." - Being able to calculate how much something costs (What does 35% off mean). - Ratio: A comparison of two quantities or numbers by division, typically expressed as "a to b" or "a:b." It represents the relationship or proportion between the two quantities. - When cleaning, if you have to combine products, understanding how ratios work  will be beneficial. - Proportions: A statement that two ratios are equal, expressing the relationship between different parts or quantities in a consistent and balanced manner. - Understand the relevancy of measurement calculations to the role of the PSW - Be able to describe a brief history of the apothecary system - Be familiar with and understand where to locate Metric System conversion chart - Be able to convert household measurements using a conversion chart - Be able to convert temperature using a conversion chart.
