Parts of the Windows Screen **Desktop** -- the windows desktop is the large space that takes up the entire computer screen. It is also called the work area. It contains icons installed in the computer. You can also find the parts of the Windows screen- the icons, the taskbar, start button, and search bar -- on the desktop. **Icons** -- is a small image that represents programs, files, or folders in a computer. It provides users with easy access to programs and allows them to open programs faster by simply kicking on them. An important icon in all desktops is the Recycle Bin, a folder that stores deleted items. Taskbar -- is a long horizontal bar at the bottom of the computer screen. It contains many different parts, namely, the Start button, the Search bar, the taskbar icons, the notification area, System time, and the Show Desktop button. - Taskbar Icons -- are programs that are currently opened and pinned or positioned in the taskbar so that you can easily see and open. - Notification area -- is located at the right side of the taskbar and contains some other additional icons or programs that you can easily open on the computer. - System time -- is a part of the taskbar that displays the current time. - Start button -- is a square button with the Microsoft Logo located at the left end of the taskbar. You can use it to open the start menu and see the files in it. - Search bar -- allows you to locate programs and files in your computer. The Start Menu -- allows you to find all the programs and folders installed in a computer. It also displays the username, the settings button, and the power button. How to Open the Start Menu To open the Start Menu, click the start button or press the windows key on your keyboard. Parts of the Microsoft Windows start Menu The Microsoft Windows start menu has different parts. These are the left pane, the right pane, and expand button. The Left pane is the part of the start menu that contains an alphabetical list of the programs and applications in a computer. The most used programs are on top of the list. The right pane shows large icons or live tiles of folders and pages such as photos, the News, Mail and Games. These offer shortcuts to the most commonly used. The Expand button lists three other buttons: - The username button displays the unique identity of a user in the computer system. It may show a user's name, abbreviations, or initials, alias or code. - The settings button allows you to customize the features of Windows based on your personal taste and requirements. - The Power Button shows sleep, shut down and restart. If you would be away from your unit for a certain period of time but do not wish to shutdown, click Sleep. The computer saves all your open files and sleeps to save power. Click Shutdown to close your computer. The Restart button resets your computer when there is a system error or when an application or an update is installed.
