Mental Health Technician (MHT) Training Mental Health Technician (MHT) The Mental Health Technician (MHT) plays a vital role in the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment and ensures the safety of participants and staff on the research unit. Mental Health Technician Characteristics • Strong Organizational Skills • Ability to work independently • Able to work in a high-pressure environment • Excellent communication skills • Curious and passionate about learning and innovation • Able to balance tasks with competing priorities Mental Health Technician Duties and Essential Job Functions • Ensures that clinical research and related activities are performed in accordance with Federal Regulatory guidelines and sponsor policies • Develops a thorough working knowledge of all protocols assigned/delegated so that all study activities are completed accurately and completely • Performs safety rounds at determined intervals while documenting findings • Oversees general milieu while promoting a safe environment • Incorporates non-violent crisis intervention de-escalation techniques to effectively manage the agitated subject • Understands and honors the established research unit rules, regulations, and Policy & Mental Health Technician Duties and Essential Job Functions • Answers telephone and communicates with other disciplines and facilities, including the coordination of patient transfers from community physicians/healthcare facilities. • Provided 1:1 observation for patients at risk of self-harm. • Charts patient observations, following delegated procedures and standards • Assists nursing with research study procedures including dosing, post dose monitoring and any study assessments as delegated by the research team. • Assists with any urgent/emergent issues on the unit Overnight Shift Duties • • • • • • • • • • Shift reports change over, room by room volunteer check, and receive 30 min Q’s Serve snack Charge all walkies/headphone sets File previous 30 min Q’s (30-minute room check) away in volunteer chart and start a new 30 min Q for every volunteer within the facility Check all volunteer charts for missing signatures, missing subject #, or missing information Dispose of all foods from the refrigerator by 10:30 PM Create new admission binder and break down discharge binders Maintain the storage closet Prepare breakfast Assist LPN with vital checks (IF NECESSARY) MHT’s MUST complete 30 min Q’s, LPN CAN assist with 30 min Q’s ONLY if necessary. Morning Shift Duties • Shift reports change over, room by room volunteer check, and receive 30 min Q’s • Serve breakfast • Clean dining room/ Rec room once breakfast is complete • Assist volunteer with free time/ rec time • Prepare and serve lunch • Clean dining room/ Rec room once lunch is complete • Attend community/ Individual group • Prepare dinner and serve dinner • Clean dining room/ Rec room once dinner is complete • Prepare snack MHT’s MUST complete 30 min Q’s, LPN CAN assist with 30 min Q’s ONLY if necessary.
