Overt Chain The chain through which goods and services pass from one company to another before reaching the final consumer. Factors Necessary for Effective Overt Chain Information communication Management co-ordination Chain Leadership 1 The Purpose of Supply Chain Optimization of performance Achieving excellence Optimization of all departments within the supply chain 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMyZ9Pu01RI 1 Logistics Management Logistics management is defined as that part of the Supply Chain Management process that plans, implements, and controls the efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services, and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet customers' requirements. - The Council of Logistics Management 1 Role of Logistics Every time you buy, lease, hire or borrow something, someone has to deliver it to you. Manufacturers have to move materials from at the point of production to delivery. The coordination of this process from point of production to point of delivery is the Logistics management. E.g, people who live in cities buy food from shops which are transported from country sides or large farms to the destination such as shops or markets,i.e Logistics management. 1 Relationship Between Logistics Mgt. and Supply Chain Mgt. Modes of transportation 4. Information systems 2 Issues to Note Supply chain design must support strategic objectives Supply chain design decisions are long-term and expensive to reverse must take into account market uncertainty 2 The Decision Phase in the Supply Chain (Cont.) Supply Chain Planning Competitors and strategies they are following to meet their customer requirements are examined in the planning process.
