The broadcast of news is an activity, in which practically every broadcasting organization engages. News operations range from large scale undertakings involving news editors, film crews and special reporters. Because of the great audience for news and the public faith in the reliability of broadcast news, it is essential that news broadcasters have a full sense of responsibility and are intellectually equipped professionals. News is very important to everybody because it keeps people informed as to what is happening in their community and other communities. News satisfies people’s curiosity and concern and it provides basic facts, which enable people to make up their minds and so join the general discussion that leads to community discussion  Broadcast programmes types CURRENT AFFAIRS PROGRAM These are programs or segments focusing on trendy controversial issues in the society. It could be social, economic, political, etc. They are usually news stories that are discussed at length  Broadcast programmes types HEALTH PROGRAMS These are programs on health issues or topics. They help sensitize the public about improving health outcomes by educating the public and encouraging healthy behaviors.  Broadcast programmes types Educational Programme: of all the uses to which television and radio have been put, educational programmes have commanded more enthusiasm. No other means of transmitting knowledge broadly whether by text, the classroom lecture or discussion or magazine articles would seem nearly effective as television and radio, which allow a single teacher to address thousands of people. For educational programme, several unique characteristics make television and radio especially useful. Among these are easy communication, sense of reality, technical assets available through the media, timeliness and special motivation. However, a number of shortcomings have been identified in educational programmes. They include general lack of such ingredients as reciprocal relationship, flexibility, regularity and system as well as limitation in the physical senses  Broadcast programmes types Entertainment Programmes: Not all broadcast programming is serious or of vital social concern. A great number of hours are set aside simply for entertainment and these are the hours, which build the popularity of broadcast media and win as well as hold the audience. Light entertainment is a rather loose term used by many stations to cover a wide field of programming, book and short story reading, serialized drama, particularly light and humorous drama; variety of programmes featuring light musical entertainment, comics, community singing, some types of listeners feedback programmes, quiz and panel games. The success of these programmes is largely dependent upon the amount of talent available  Broadcast programmes types Children Programme: No area of television programming is more susceptible to public criticism than that of children programmes. (Eastman & Ferguson, 2006) added that programmers must also consider several other factors specific to children’s programming like; Federal Government rules, children’s interest, and packaging that will attract the kid. Cartoons and animation also falls under this category.  Broadcast programmes types A documentary is a nonfictional motion picture intended to document some aspect of reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction, education, or maintaining a historical record. Documentaries are made on different subjects, create different types of documentaries. Documentaries are in- depth and detailed. They feature interviews, sound effects, music, dramatization, animation, extracts and more. There are also different types of documentaries- Historical documentary, Biographical documentary, Cultural documentary, etc.  Broadcast programmes types Sports is a programme format that rakes in millions in revenue annually. This is because sports is one of the most watched programmes in the world. With numerous sports lovers and different types of sports, sports programmes feature sports news, commentary, games and awards. The programmes focus on different sports like football, basketball, baseball, cricket, swimming, athletics, horse riding, cycling, formula 1 etc  Broadcast programmes types Reality TV is the most recent programme format. As time passes, lifestyle has become a worthy product of sale. Reality programmes feature the real-life activities of prominent subjects like celebrities whom by their profession or background, the public takes a keen interest in their lives. The most successful reality TV programmes are X Factor, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, America’s Got Talent and more.  Broadcast programmes types Drama is a genre of narrative fiction (or semi-fiction) intended to be more serious than humorous in tone. Drama is an essential programming format because it makes room for the numerous films produced and released annually. Though drama is also a film genre, there are numerous types of dramas. They include historical drama, docudrama, political drama, horror drama, melodrama, comedy-drama, teen drama, romantic drama and military drama.  Broadcast programmes types Religion Religion is a programming type that features religious programmes. Religious programmes are centered on religious news, commentary, films and more. The messages center on the word and its people. Religious programmes vary according to religion. Sometimes, live coverage of religious sermons is aired on programmes.  Broadcast programmes types Magazine programme This is a broadcast programme that presents a theme or topic using different broadcast formats or types to achieve it purpose.  Broadcast programmes types FEATURE PROGRAMS They are broadcast programs that explore newsworthy topics in depth however, they explore it looking at the human angle. LIFESTYLE PROGRAMS These are programs that explore the lifestyle of people that their lives are remarkable and worth broadcasting. Lifestyle programs could be on fashion, shopping, travelling, and even cooking. They are certain aspects in someone's life that people are interested in.  Broadcast Format types Broadcast formats can be used with all the types of broadcast programmes available. Broadcast formats are classified into;; Spoken words broadcasting: They are; talks, discussions, interviews, debate, drama, documentary, news, commentaries, features etc..  Broadcast Format types Music is a big part of broadcast programming. It is a language strum in rhythm and lyrics and is understood universally. Music programmes feature the latest songs, music videos and other music topics. Music aired on music channels vary from Jazz to rhythm & blues, hip hop, pop music, soul, indie, and more. The audience loves their favourite artiste and will do well with a good music programme. There are networks that only broadcast music such as Soundcity television and TRACE.
