The Earth orbits around the Sun & The Moon orbits around the Earth When the Moon orbits Earth, the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth. When this happens, the Moon blocks the light of the Sun from reaching Earth. This causes an eclipse of the Sun, or a solar eclipse. During a solar eclipse, the Moon casts a shadow onto Earth. *The umbra is the dark center portion of a shadow. *The penumbra is a lighter type of shadow. closer Farther MOON EARTH MOON The Moon is closer to the The Moon is earth & look & farther to the looks slightly earth & looks larger. slightly smaller. TYPES The Moon blocks all of the Sun’s light. This is called a Total solar eclipse. The Sun appears as a bright ring surrounding the dark disk of the moon. The Moon only blocks part of the Sun’s light. This is called a partial solar eclipse. Viewing the Sun through naked eyes during an eclipse can burn the retina, leading to loss of central vision. Eclipse glasses, fitted with solar filters, can be used to view the Sun during an eclipse. 2024- The Great American Solar Eclipse The Monday, April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Why Solar Eclipse Important for Scientist scientists still study eclipses to make new discoveries about the Sun, Earth, and our space environment. Total solar eclipses are particularly important because they allow scientists to see a part of the Sun’s atmosphere – known as the corona – that’s too faint to see except when the bright light of the Sun is blocked. Solar Flare Solar Wind Corona The Corona is the outermost part of the Sun’s atmosphere. The Solar Wind is wind from the sun. It is a stream of charred protons, electrons and plasma shot out of the Sun. Sunspots are areas that appear dark dark on the surface of the Sun, They appear dark because they Sunspot are cooler than other parts. 1. What is Solar Eclipse? 2. In which Solar Eclipse the moon is closest to the earth? 3. What is Sun’s Corona? a. The dark spot in Sun surface b. When is Earth Day celebrated ? 4.What makes Earth a unique planet? Waking up is difficult Stage 4 (REM sleep): Brain activity in this stage looks similar to how it looks when one is awake, loss of muscle tone except for your eyes which move rapidly , breathing becomes irregular and heart rate rise. As part of a full night’s sleep, you cycle through four stages of sleep multiple times: three stages of NREM sleep, followed by one stage of REM sleep. Typically 1 sleep cycle takes ~90-110 mins. SLEEP IMPORTANCE Memory Consolidation: Brain processes new learnings and motor skills from the day, committing some to memory, maintaining others, and deciding which ones to delete enhancing learning and memory. (REM)Some memory consolidation also takes place in deep sleep( NREM ) Emotional Regulation: Brain processes emotions during REM sleep..Amygdala, the part of your brain that processes emotions, activates during REM sleep. Dreams: Dreams, which are more vivid in REM sleep, may be involved in emotional processing. Most of our memorable dreams occur during REM sleep. Brain Development: Researches suggest REM sleep promotes brain development, since newborns spend most of their sleep time in REM,humans and puppies, spend even more time in REM sleep during infancy than those that are born with more developed brains, like horses and birds. Physical Recovery: During deep sleep (NREM stage 3 ) cells repair and rebuild, and hormones are secreted to promote bone and muscle growth. Body also uses deep sleep to strengthen your immunity so you can fight off illness and infection. 2 or more hours of screen time in the evening can seriously disrupt the melatonin (sleep hormone) Turn off all electronic devices at least one hour before bed. Try reading a book, listening to relaxing music or other relaxing activity SLEEP DURATION RECOMMENDATION QUIZ Q1 How many stages of Sleep do we have Q2 Name the 2 types of sleep Q3 Memory consolidation occurs in this stage , name that.
