Toxicity grades: Pt Teaching Grade1 : (1.5-2.5 mEq/L). ¤Take this drug exactly as prescribed, after S/S: Nausea ,Vomiting, Tremors, Hyperreflexia, meals or with food or milk. Swallow extended- Ataxia, Muscular weakness. or controlled-release tablets whole; do not Treatment: Hydration Q4-6 hours, Kayexalate. chew or crush. Grade2 : (2.5-3.5mEq/L ). ¤Eat a normal diet with normal salt intake; S/S: Hypertonia, Hypotension, Rigidity, Stupor. maintain adequate fluid intake (at least 2.5 Treatment: Hydration, Kayexalate, dialysis. Lithium quarts/day). ¤Arrange for frequent checkups, including blood tests. Keep all appointments for Grade3:>3.5 mEq/L. S/S: Coma and Seizure. Treatment: Hemodialysis. Carbonate checkups to get the most benefits with the least toxicity. ¤Discontinue drug, and notify your health care Contraindications 1.
